Position Summary: Purpose of Position:
The Controls Engineer is responsible for the management of all site BAS systems, critical systems, building operations and project management for projects assigned to them by the PMO.
This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Sustainability & Critical Facilities and is responsible for developing plans, specifications, schematic design, schedules, and cost estimates for all site energy management and building automation projects. Capable of managing multiple complex projects, prioritizing the work, follows project process and procedures, and manages budget & schedule. Manages projects individually or as part of a project team and the Project Management Office (PMO). Working with the global business system integration Teams for the Sustainability programs to ensure all systems are implemented and continuous improvement of systems is maintained. Capable of developing BMS scope documents and directing the efforts of contract engineering resources. This position will work closely with and in support of the maintenance & operations, IT and networking teams for the integrated business systems. Working with the IT change management Teams to ensure compliance to Corporate policies for all critical areas.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, Commissioning and Validation Support: Provide design and commissioning support during the delivery of the Building Management Systems and automation in the Utilities Plant. This will include vendor design reviews, assistance with commissioning, ensure consistency with automation in other areas of the plant, and support validation and qualification activities.
Operations Support: System integration with utility/energy management system, meters, and other proprietary controls/monitoring systems. Interaction directly with the NOC’s, SOC’s and the IT change management Teams to ensure all Facilities activities are properly documented and tracked through our business solutions.
Capabilities Improvement: Provide automation support to facility optimization and enhancement projects.
Compliance/Remediation: Provide solutions in accordance with local, department, and corporate safety and regulatory policies, procedures and programs.
Self-Management: Project management and leadership, leveraging automation as an organizational and process enabler.
External Relationships: Maintain and assist in the utilization of vendor partners. Maintain building management systems compliance with SOPs and current industry requirements.
Write, approve, and train personnel on SOPs (standard operating procedures) associated with BAS/BMS, critical systems, building operations.
Primary resource for building management systems problem solving.
Work with the Sustainability Teams for implementing reduction initiatives measures.
Participates on cross-functional teams supporting sustainability corporate initiatives that are aligned within the Real Estate tier structure.
Maintain knowledge on the latest state-of-the-art research activities in areas of critical systems operations (i.e., SASB, BREEM, EC, EPA, Green Grid, ASHRAE, USGBC, etc.).
Coordinate procedures and best practices with other Information Management groups, such as IT and Tech Ops.
Manage projects to improve or expand building management systems. Provide HVAC technical support to the PMO.
Develop and implement system and production improvements in alignment with Good Engineering Practices as defined in department SOPs and guidelines.
Develop and implement system improvements in alignment with end user and strategic needs.
Coordinate project activities to minimize effect.
Communicate project progress to the PMO, affected parties and other interested groups.
Coordinate design activities with various company departments so that they are provided adequate input into the final product.
Provide HVAC technical and troubleshooting support for the Maintenance Department.
Develop comprehensive reports on critical systems, energy management, building automation, trends, alarm management for integration with the NOC’s and SOC.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Requirements: 10+ yrs relative experience with BMS, BAS, & EMS systems (programming, installing, maintaining and monitoring).
Extensive experience with ALC (Automatic Logic Controls) control system.
Journeyman level HVAC Specialist.
Experience working with Sustainability industry groups.
Experience in design and delivery of building management systems.
Experience in design and delivery of utilities automation.
Effective communication skills to both technical and non-technical personnel (verbal and written)
Familiar with computer network architecture (TCP/IP networks)
Knowledge of regulatory, change control, and computer system validation requirements.
Experience in project management.
Highly proficient in Systems & Controls integration.
Knowledge in MS Word, Excel, Project, Power Point and AutoCAD.
BS in Mechanical Engineering desirable but not required.
Physical Demands (Walking, lifting, equipment, operation, etc.)
The ability to lift 50+ lbs. Carry, climb and work from ladder.
Working Conditions and Environment (i.e., necessary travel, shift hours, etc.)
24/7 on call. Some travel (10 %). Hours flex around business requirements
